And just like that, our first week was came to an end. We managed to organize and run a camp for over 300 children with people we met just over a week ago. Over the past five days, we have had many educationals to teach our campers about ARF and our cause, taught them basic English language, and played sports and games with them.
To me, this has been the most impactful trip to Armenia out of the countless times I have travelled to the motherland. It has been a new experience for me as I have never been a teacher or a councillor before. In one week, everyone of my friends and I will know that when we say goodbye to the campers for the last time, they will be more educated, more aware about our cause, and will one day be able to lead a camp just like we have.
This weekend gives us time to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past week, and make the second week even better. I can’t wait to start the next week with even more fun activities for our campers and plenty more memories to take home to my peers. AYF Camp Vanadzor has been a great experience and I hope all Armenians living in the diaspora could have a similar opportunity of giving back to the homeland.
