July 23, 2013 – Day 7 of Camp Vanadzor
It feels like just yesterday that I came to Vanadzor in 2011 as the first group of AYF Canada members to take part in an incredible and life changing experience. Looking back on that summer, all the laughs and unforgettable memories that were made with my campers and fellow counsellors, it is one of the many reasons why I chose to come back to Vanadzor this year.
My experience 2 years ago was an eye opening journey that helped mold the person I am today. Coming back to Vanadzor has been a bit different this time around. The children are older, louder and have multiplied…
Older: It brings a smile to my face seeing the campers from 2 years ago come up to me and remember all the memories we shared in 2011.
Louder: I feel enormous pride hearing how loudly and proudly the children sing the patriotic songs that they just learned 2 short summers ago.
Multiplied: This may be the most significant and most rewarding part of being part of the AYF Canada camp seeing the number of campers increasing year by year.
This camp is an astonishing experience not only for its campers but for the counsellors. I believe that I have grown not only as a person but as an AYF member because of camp Vanadzor.
In a few short days I will pack my bags and say goodbye to Vanadzor yet again, but I can without a doubt say that Vanadzor will always hold a special place in my heart.
I would like to take this moment to thank AYF Canada for allowing me to take part in this journey not only once but twice.
