July 19, 2013 – Day 5 of Camp Vanadzor
This has been my second time participating in AYF Canada Youth Corps. I was part of the first team of volunteers that launched the camp back in 2011. We had an amazing time and I was so eager to go back this year to do it all again. I reunited with some campers that I met two summers ago. It was amazing to see how much they have grown over the years. It was really nice to see some of the same children that were in the camp in 2011. It’s difficult to express the pride I felt when my campers from my first year of Youth Corps recalled the memories we had together.
Some things that set aside Camp Vanadzor from other programs are the people from this city. If it wasn’t for our volunteer Unger and Ungeroohis helping us out, this camp would not be as successful as it is today. Along with our volunteers, we are grateful for the Vanadzor parents who trust us with their children for these two weeks. Not only has this camp brought me closer to the local children of Vanadzor, but also with my fellow Canada Youth Corps volunteers. It has been a great experience to see AYF members from different cities come together to run the same camp. Youth Corps is more than a trip to Armenia, but it brings together youth with the same purpose of making a lasting impact in our homeland.
